FACILITIES

We are very grateful for the use of the Church and some facilities in the adjoining Palace Gate Centre. The Management Committee and Administrator made us very welcome in 2005 when we had to change venue at very short notice, and this year it has been possible to make better arrangements well in advance.

We regret that we have decided not to use the Southernhay United Reformed Church due to concerns about disruption by the Princesshay redevelopment.

As Palace Gate Centre is used by many other groups and organisations, please be tolerant of others' presence. And DO NOT LEAVE BELONGINGS UNATTENDED, unfortunately they have been known to disappear.

We will have a cellar room (which is bound to be an attraction to youngsters) which we have dubbed the Festival Lounge. This can be used at any time the festival is running, and we hope to have sufficient volunteer staff to offer drinks, biscuits, and sandwiches at lunchtime. Other rooms will be made available when possible for particular purposes, eg tuning, larger school groups, harp exhibition.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, between 10am and 2pm, the Lower Hall (adjacent to the Church) offers a café facility where coffee, tea and meals at lunchtime are offered which provide excellent value for money. Please feel free to patronise this - all proceeds are used for the maintenance of Palace Gate Centre.

The Church provides a relatively small, intimate performance area, but with plenty of space for an audience, who can expand into the gallery if necessary.

PLEASE BE SILENT AND DO NOT MOVE ABOUT DURING PERFORMANCES AND ADJUDICATIONS.

Please note that, in accordance with our Child Protection Policy, we cannot responsible for competitors, who should be accompanied by an adult if under 18. Any concerns should be reported immediately to one of our Personnel, who will be identified by a badge.

LOCATION

South Street Baptist Church is on the East side of South Street, Exeter, opposite the junction with Market Street. The lower part of South Street is two way, but northbound traffic must turn into Market Street as the higher part of South Street is one-way southbound. By following Market Street across Fore Street, into Mary Arches and Bartholemew Street, it is possible to turn into North Street and return down South Street.

The best approach by vehicle is down South Street (southbound) so that the Church is on your left. A little higher up South Street (ie before you reach the Church) there is a parking bay for coaches, and a loading bay a little further down, suitable for pick-up and set-down.

For disabled access, it is possible to set-down and pick-up immediately in front of the building.

On-street parking is a problem so close to the City Centre, but there are a number of car parks within easy reach, marked on the map below. Those at Magdalen Street and The Quay are within about five minutes walk.

Do not attempt to park, set-down or pick-up in Palace Gate as this is the fire access for the Cathedral!

The Church is about 10 minutes walk from Central Railway Station, and a little longer from the Bus Station.

If approaching by road from the M5, follow signs to the City Centre from Junction 30: these will bring you in along Topsham Road, which becomes Holloway Street.

If approaching from the A30 (Honiton direction) follow the road (Honiton Road) towards the City Centre from the outer by-pass through Heavitree, and turn left at the large roundabout onto Western Way (the inner by-pass).
